How cut/promote recommendations work: We score each product family based on sales, margin, revenue contribution, and cost to produce. A 5 is a perfect score, and a perfect score, and -1 would be the worst score. We then suggest you promote high scorers... and possibly cut low scorers. An exception is made for products introduced recently (last 90 days); we don't think you should cut these yet, as maybe they just need a bit more time on the shelves.
How reorder recommendations work: We compare current stock availability to recent sales speed (# sales per day, over last ~60 days). Then, if the stock will run out soon, we layer on the product score for our recommendation on what to do next (see "how cut/promote recs work"):
  • If the product score is strong, we recommend reordering.
  • If the score is middling, we flag it for review.
  • If the score is poor and the product has been around for a while, we suggest NOT reordering.
  • If the score is low but new stock, we flag it for review.
